Kick off Women's History Month with Contemporary Women of Color Making History, an evening panel presented by We, Ceremony in collaboration with the Cambridge Public Library. Learn from the personal narratives and journeys of three local women of color who are changing Boston and beyond. Through this conversation, we aim to inspire and mobilize our guests to take actionable steps to combat the different "isms" that challenge their lives.
Meet the speakers:
Amma Marfo, education and writing professional
Amma is an education and writing professional that equips her audiences (on paper and in person alike) to understand creativity, their temperament, and the intersection of comedy and our daily lives. She is a dynamic and sought-after speaker on topics such as leadership, group dynamics, and incorporating your values into your work and larger goals. She speaks on college and university campuses across the country, at regional and national conferences, and has partnered with organizations like HubSpot, Wayfair, Startup Institute Boston, Ovia Health, and General Assembly.
Chrysanthemum Tran, poet, performer, and teaching artist
Chrysanthemum is a queer and transgender Vietnamese American poet, performer, and teaching artist based in Providence, RI. In 2016, she became the first transfeminine finalist of the Women of the World Poetry Slam. A Pink Door Fellow, Chrysanthemum is a 2016 Rustbelt Poetry Slam Champion and 2017 FEMS Poetry Slam Champion. She is the current lead teaching artist for the Providence Poetry Slam youth team.
Sonia Espinosa, co-founder, Massachusetts Recreational Consumer Council (MRCC)
Prior to graduating with Harvard’s Class of 2016, Sonia helped co-found the Cannabis Cultural Association (CCA), an organization which strives to involve underrepresented communities in the legal cannabis/hemp industry in New York. Currently Sonia is focused on the Massachusetts Recreational Consumer Council, MRCC, whose efforts seek to bridge the gap between communities and local legislators. Aside from MRCC, Sonia runs www.EatMe.Land, a cannabis, femme, art, tech, collective. Sonia’s past work experiences include Vice Magazine’s editorial department and NH dispensary Temescal’s, edible department, as well as Women Grow’s administrative assistance and software payment transactions.
